1st Elagin Bridge
The 1st Elagin Bridge is larger and longer than the 2nd and 3rd bridges. It connects Elagin Island with Kamenny Island in the area of the Old Theater. The very first floating bridge on this site dates back to 1817; at that time it was already the eighth bridge of this type in St. Petersburg. In 1831, there was already a crossbar-braced wooden bridge built by the engineers of Bazaine and Malta. Nine spans were preserved, but the bridge underwent reconstruction already in 1880. At that time, the width of the bridge was 14 meters. Once again, the 1st Elagin Bridge was rebuilt in 1908, then a double-wing span was installed and the bridge became a drawbridge. Already in 1931, a major overhaul of the bridge was carried out, preserving the old piles, and in 1936, a bronze bust of S.M. was installed on the square near the bridge. Kirov. The bridge's parts were badly worn out by 1951 and it had to be replaced according to the design of engineer Blazhevich. The First Elagin Bridge is considered a drawbridge in our time, but it is opened only on weekdays upon application for the passage of ships. It is planned to rebuild the bridge into a fixed bridge in the near future.

The 1st Elagin Bridge, located between Elagin and Kamenny Islands, is mentioned on the map of St. Petersburg (Schubert's plan) of 1828 as a floating pontoon crossing.
In 1831, according to the design of engineer A.I. Malte, a wooden bridge was built here. It was rebuilt in 1880, after which the width of the crossing reached 14 meters. The project for this restructuring did not include the creation of a drawbridge. In 1908, the 1st Elagin Bridge was equipped with a draw span, and new piles were driven into its base. The next major renovation took place in 1931. The permanent movable metal 1st Elagin Bridge was built in 1952. The author of his project is V.V. Blazhevich. The length of the crossing was 107.9 meters, width - 11.53 meters.
