2nd Elagin Bridge
The 2nd Elagin Bridge runs across the Middle Nevka, connecting Elagin and Krestovsky Islands.
The bridge is a continuation of Ryukhin Street, and its length is 141 meters and width is 14.5 meters. On the site of the Second Elagin Bridge there used to be the ninth floating bridge of St. Petersburg in 1821. If you look at Schubert’s plan, you can see that a pontoon bridge is depicted on the site of the 2nd Elagin. In 1852, a wooden 11-span beam bridge was built here, which had a drawable central span.
The bridge was partially rebuilt, all wooden elements were replaced with metal ones and new supports were installed according to Blazevich's design. After this reconstruction, the bridge became eight-span and only in 1990 the bridge became completely pedestrian, and the remaining wooden elements were completely replaced with reinforced concrete and metal ones. This reconstruction was carried out according to Vasilyeva’s project. According to the approved concept in 2007, the bridge is planned to be reconstructed in 2015. The reconstruction will end with the replacement of the bridge design to a fixed one.
