In the very center of St. Petersburg, where Nevsky Prospekt meets the Fontanka, there is a magnificent monument of Russian architecture of the 18th-19th centuries - Anichkov Palace.
Address:
St. Petersburg, Nevsky Ave., 39
The appearance of the palace ensemble took shape gradually, under the influence of successive eras, architectural styles, and aristocratic owners.
At various times, the Palace belonged to the favorites of Empresses Elizabeth Petrovna and Catherine II and became the residence of the imperial family. Being the oldest on Nevsky Prospekt, the palace has gone through numerous alterations. Many famous architects contributed to the design and construction of buildings on the territory of the Anichkova estate: M.G. Zemtsov, F.B. Rastrelli, I.E. Starov, L. Ruska, G. Quarenghi, K.I. Rossi, A.I. Stackenschneider and others. Today, the once imperial residence belongs to children.
Since February 12, 1937, the main children's palace of the city has been located here - the St. Petersburg City Palace of Youth Creativity (until 1990 - the Leningrad Palace of Pioneers). The palace continued its work even during the difficult years of the siege: clubs, a playground, a library were opened, the city Olympiad of children's creativity and even a New Year tree were held.
Concert teams made up of students from the art department and the dance ensemble of the Palace of Pioneers under the direction of choreographer A.E. Obranta performed in military units and hospitals. 70 pupils of the children's front-line ensemble were awarded medals "For the Defense of Leningrad". The doors of the Palace are always open to the world of hobbies of young St. Petersburg residents: art, science, technology, sports, social activities and much more.
Festivals and competitions, game programs and performances, subject Olympiads and scientific conferences are held here all year round. Every day is a new event! The palace is a permanent meeting place for participants in various city and all-Russian pedagogical conferences and seminars, festivals and competitions. It has become a good tradition to hold the finals of the All-Russian competition of additional education teachers “I Give My Heart to Children” at the Palace of Youth Creativity. The palace continues today the traditions established three quarters of a century ago.
Among its graduates are several generations of prominent figures in culture, science, and sports. Within the walls of the Palace, the most gifted schoolchildren complete their secondary education at the Anichkov Lyceum. Concerts, evenings, and holidays take place in the magnificent ceremonial interiors of the Anichkov Palace. Enfilades of living rooms, halls, and offices, decorated in the style of Russian classicism, are a wonderful place for holding official receptions, assemblies, exhibitions, balls, and chamber concerts. Anichkov's estate is the heart of the Palace.
Architectural monuments are located here: Anichkov Palace, Service Building, Cabinet building, and other buildings. This territory also contains a beautiful garden and a modern theater and concert complex “Carnival”. The Palace of Youth Creativity, despite its advanced age, is a dynamically developing institution. For 75 years, he stepped far beyond the walls of the Anichkov estate. In the resort area on the Karelian Isthmus there is the Zerkalny Country Center for Children and Youth Creativity, a favorite vacation spot for children and teachers. The pride of the Palace is two modern complexes, opened in the 21st century: the ecological and biological center “Krestovsky Island” with modern laboratories, greenhouses and open-air cages and an educational and health complex, which includes a swimming pool with four lanes, gyms, gymnastics and choreography rooms . Honorably remembering its achievements and preserving traditions, today the Palace is ready to conquer new heights!
