Big Krestovsky Bridge
The Bolshoi Krestovsky Bridge over the Malaya Nevka is located at the junction of Bolshaya Zelenin Street and Petrogradskaya Street. The name of the bridge comes from Krestovsky Island.
In 1850, a wooden 11-span bridge was built here, which was subsequently repaired several times. In 1950-1952, a metal 5-span all-welded bridge with a double-wing draw span in the middle part was built on this site (designed by engineer P.V. Andreevsky and architect L.A. Noskov).
In swing spans, each wing has its own axis of rotation and rigidly fixed counterweights;
The wings are deployed using electric winches, but there is also a manual drive for unforeseen cases. The wing opening angle is 78 degrees. The bridge is raised only a few times a year by special request. The river supports are reinforced concrete on high pile grillages. Coastal abutments are reinforced concrete on a wooden pile foundation. The roadway is a reinforced concrete slab with an asphalt concrete surface. The railings and lampposts are borrowed from Gothic. Railings are sections between cast-iron rectangular pedestals, which at the top take the form of crossed pointed arches. Lampposts are tall, round, tapering metal posts. The lamps are multifaceted lanterns suspended from shaped pole brackets. The fences are to some extent similar to the gratings of the Winter Canal. In 1993, the bridge was repaired.
