In the first years of the Palace’s existence, Vladimir Mayakovsky performed here several times. The Palace is rightfully proud of its Great Theater Hall, which seats about two thousand spectators.

This largely unique building was carefully restored and equipped with modern equipment for the 80th anniversary of the Palace of Culture. In addition, the Palace has a small theater hall with 300 seats and a concert hall with 120 seats. Not only famous masters, but also talented amateur artists perform on the stage of the Palace of Culture.

The amateur performances of the cultural center are distinguished by their mass participation, brilliant teaching staff, and high artistic level. It is in the Palace of Culture named after. Gorky in 1935, the country's first amateur classical ballet studio arose, which still exists. For the first time in the USSR, the children's choreographic group staged ballets for children “The Stork”, “The Treasured Apple Tree” and others. Choreographer Yuri Grigorovich and composer Andrei Petrov began their professional careers here. Currently, there are 78 creative and sports groups operating in the Palace of Culture, in which about three thousand St. Petersburg residents are involved. Together with the Administration of the Kirov District and St. Petersburg, the Palace of Culture holds large-scale city celebrations dedicated to festive and significant dates.

A.M. Gorky under the leadership of the director - Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences A.R. Sitebagina. The Palace employs qualified specialists who love their profession; nine employees have the title “Honored Worker of Culture”. They preserve the rich traditions of the order-bearing cultural and leisure institution and keep their finger on the pulse of the times, trying to maximally satisfy the changing needs of St. Petersburg residents and guests of the city. The House of Culture of the Moscow-Narvsky district of Leningrad (later the Palace of Culture named after A.M. Gorky) was opened on November 8, 1927 for the anniversary of the October Revolution.

This is the first House of Culture in the city and country, for which a special building with a theater and concert complex and a cinema was erected at the expense of trade unions. The palace was built according to the design of architects A.I. Gegello, A.I. Dmitriev with the participation of architect D.L. Krichevsky and engineer V.F. Railana. In 1937, the Palace received the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Paris, and since 1968 it has been officially recognized as an architectural monument of the Constructivist era. Name A.M.

Gorky was assigned to the Moscow-Narva House of Culture on July 8, 1929. The proletarian writer was personally present at the ceremonial meeting dedicated to this event. During the Great Patriotic War and the siege of Leningrad, the Palace of Culture named after. Gorky was not closed for a single day. Concerts, performances, film screenings took place here, and the library served readers. Outstanding artists performed on the stage of the Palace of Culture in between bombings, among them the greatest performer of the Shakespearean repertoire, Vahram Papazyan. During the most difficult winter of the siege, on January 2, 1942, the workers of the cultural center, at the cost of incredible efforts, held a New Year's tree celebration for the children. The merits of the Palace of Culture have been recognized with numerous awards. These are certificates of honor from the country's leadership, the Ministry of Culture, trade unions, diplomas from VDNKh, gratitude from enterprises and public organizations. In 1978, the Palace was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
