The Catherine Garden was originally laid out in the 1820s and completed in 1832 by the architect K. Rossi and garden master Y. Fedorov.
The Catherine Garden is located in front of the Alexandrinsky Theater.
A second redevelopment was carried out in it in 1873 - 1880 by completely different masters, and the garden lost its original appearance. The Catherine Garden has a “neighbor” - the Public Library, one of the largest and most famous libraries in the world. In the very center of the garden it is difficult not to see the majestically towering monument to Catherine II. On the base are figures of famous figures of Catherine’s era: A. G. Orlov, G. R. Derzhavin, A. V. Suvorov, P. A. Rumyantsev, I. I. Betsky, E. R. Dashkova, A. A. Bezborodko , G. A. Potemkin and V. Ya. Chichagova. All work is carried out taking into account physical characteristics and portrait resemblance. The garden is part of the ensemble of Ostrovskaya Square and is included in the Heritage List of the Russian Federation
