The emergence of the palace and park ensemble in Gatchina dates back to the reign of Empress Catherine II.

In 1765, the Empress gave her favorite Grigory Grigoryevich Orlov a luxurious gift: the Gatchina Manor. The picturesque terrain, spring lakes connected by canals and rivers made it possible to create here a unique landscape park, the center of which was a palace unique in its architecture. One of the first landscape parks in Russia was created in the adjacent territory.

After the death of the brilliant nobleman, the ruler bought the palace from his heirs and granted it to Prince Pavel Petrovich, her son. As a result of the conspiracy, Paul I was killed. The owner of Gatchina became his widow Maria Feodorovna, according to whose will the palace passed to Emperor Nicholas I and his male heirs. The royal families of Alexander III and his son Nicholas II chose the Gatchina Palace, and it became a country residence.

Alexander, who ascended the throne after the death of his father, significantly rebuilt and changed the palace, taking into account the requirements for cozy and comfortable living and fashion trends of the time. The palace has survived in this form to this day. The atmosphere of the royal halls
The atmosphere of the palace is thoroughly saturated with the spirit of intrigue and mystery. The halls of the palace are an exceptional combination of luxury and brevity. The interior of each room reflects the era of the past in its own way. The skillful stucco molding on the ceilings and walls and the white color of the decoration of the White Hall give it volume and lightness. The fluted columns of the Marble Dining Room give it a sophisticated and elegant look. The oval boudoir of Empress Maria Feodorovna is decorated with sophisticated floral patterns. The ceremonial bedchamber, decorated with painted marble pilasters and blue Lyon silk, is an example of luxury and splendor. The decoration of the Imperial Throne Room awes everyone who visits it.
