The KARO cinema chain, founded in 1997, has set new standards for the design of cinema halls in Russia.
Today, KARO is the leading cinema chain in Russia, operating 29 modern cinemas (229 screens) in Moscow, the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Samara, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Yekaterinburg and Surgut, which are visited by almost 12 million people annually. Since 2012, the controlling shareholder of KARO has been a consortium consisting of leading investor Baring Vostok Private Equity, UFG Private Equity, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and entrepreneur Paul Heth. On June 1, 2013, the KARO network became the first 100% digital cinema network in Russia, providing viewers with the highest possible level of film exhibition.
The Oktyabr Cinema Center, the country's main premiere cinema, annually hosts more than 50 premieres with the participation of Hollywood and Russian stars, and is also traditionally the venue for the Moscow International Film Festival.
In the summer of 2014, the KARO cinema chain opened one of the largest megaplexes in the world, KARO Vegas 22. In March 2015, the KARO Sky 17 cinema complex with 17 halls was opened in the largest shopping center in Europe, Aviapark.
