According to these objectives, the museum's activities include exhibition projects, periodical publication of the museum catalogue, excursions and educational programs. Erarta Museum is aimed at the widest audience and strives to give the viewer the opportunity to discover contemporary art and find in it what is interesting and close to them. The name is formed from the words era and arta and means “time of art.”
The museum opened on September 30, 2010, and from that moment on, an interesting and rich life began within its walls - exhibitions, excursions, theatrical performances, concerts, educational events and much more. The museum's collection includes works created by Russian artists in the second half of the 20th - early 21st centuries.
The collection includes 2,300 items - paintings, graphics, sculpture, objects, installations. The museum periodically replenishes its collection by collaborating with artists working in different regions of Russia and representing different generations and trends in the fine arts. In the summer of 2015, Erarta’s collection became available online on Google Art Project, the largest Internet platform through which millions of users have the opportunity to become involved with the world’s cultural heritage. Erarta is one of the few museums in St. Petersburg whose program includes not only supporting art, but also creating their own creative projects. Erarta brings its ideas to life in collaboration with artists, as well as everyone who wants to take part in the creative process. Among the implemented projects are total installations U-space, “Theater without actors”, “Sound stories of paintings”, “Isoanimation” and “Isoliterature”. Erarta's projects bring contemporary art closer to a wider audience, allowing everyone to find something important and interesting in it.
