Unique museum exhibits tell about the work of famous stage masters, with whom theatrical reforms and innovations of the Russian theater of the first half of the twentieth century are associated - Sun. Meyerhold, A. Tairov, M. Fokin, A. Pavlova, V. Nijinsky, V. Komissarzhevskaya, N. Akimov, F. Chaliapin, G. Ulanova... Luxurious costumes made in the workshops of the imperial theaters, models and sketches by artists A. Benois and L. Bakst, K. Malevich and V. Tatlin from the museum’s funds are adjacent to specially created art objects. The theatrical interactive environment helps visitors take a closer look at the beautiful faces and images of a bygone theatrical era. “The Magical World of Theater” is the name of the permanent exhibition located on another floor of the museum.
Magnificent models of theaters from different countries and eras will take us from the Ancient Theater to mystery performances or to Shakespeare's Globe, or the Swedish Royal Theater in Drotninholm. Wonderful costumes from the wardrobe of the imperial theaters, skillfully made props, fragments of scenery and props - everything that can be seen behind the scenes in a real theater is presented at the exhibition. The world of the theater backstage reveals its secrets: how thunder is heard in the theater, how the wind howls, howling the sea surf - every visitor can try all these noise machines in action. A photograph taken at the exhibition wearing one of the theater hats will remind you of the unusual exhibition. In a very beautiful and elegant theater hall, built according to the sketch of academician of painting E. S. Kochergin, music sounds, actors perform performances and concert programs. The museum and its branches host series of excursions and lectures on the history of theater for adults and children, recording concerts, evenings of memories, meetings with outstanding actors, artists, musicians, displays of independent acting and directing works, one-man performances, chamber concerts.
The museum as a scientific, cultural and educational center is visited by more than 150 thousand people a year. Our museum exists to preserve and resurrect theatrical legends for each new visitor.
