The Museum of Sound is a museum where the main character is SOUND.
Visitors will have the opportunity to get to know him better, play his own musical instruments, experiment with finding a new sound and different methods of sound production, listen to a map of the sounds of St. Petersburg with its original acoustics and read sound notations (graphic scores).
The St. Petersburg Sound Museum opened its doors to the public in September 2015.
The basis of the exhibition is the original instruments created by musicians specifically for performing their works: this is the “first Russian analog synthesizer”, an iron, a saxophone made from water pipes, and a chalice. The exhibition is interactive, so you can touch all the instruments with your hands and extract sounds from them. And with the help of an interactive sound map of St. Petersburg, you can hear the carillon of the Peter and Paul Fortress, and the flying pigeons at the Bronze Horseman, and even the sounds of the tram park. A special part of the museum's collection is the only collection of graphic scores in Russia by contemporary composers, some sheets of which are also used in performances of the St. Petersburg Improvisation Orchestra. The Museum of Sound is not only an exhibition: the museum regularly hosts contemporary music concerts, lectures, exhibitions, master classes, and creative meetings.
