The Arc de Triomphe is an architectural monument designed to welcome the victorious troops from the war.

The Narva triumphal gates were located near the Tarakanovka River, symbolizing the border of the city, emphasizing its status. The construction of the gate was carried out twice. The first gate was built according to the plan developed by the architect Giacomo Quarenghi. Considering the temporary use of the gate, the monument was made of wood. After a while, the gate began to fall apart, for this reason they had to be demolished. Architect Stasov has developed a new project.

The gate received a new location and different building material. Durable stone and metal have preserved the appearance of the gate to this day. The monument is considered the oldest among all other monumental sculptures. The grand opening of the triumphal arch took place on the Peterhof road, along which the troops were returning. Architect Stasov failed to complete the project.

The monument was entrusted to completion by the architect Jacques Akmarenga according to a simpler project, and in a very short time, they were built. The one-span gate with a chariot of six horses, located on the road to Narva, became known as the Narva Gate. Architect Stasov developed a new project for the reconstruction of the Narva Gate, but due to a lack of material resources, construction was suspended.

Only ten years later, thanks to the will of General Uvarov, a hero of the Patriotic War, commander of the Guards Corps, holder of all Russian orders, funds were transferred for construction. The width of the arch and the carved decoration were changed by the architect Stasov. Brick and copper were used as construction materials for cladding the gates. The six horses were made by the Russian architect Pyotr Klodt, the sculpture of victory by Pinov, the chariot by the sculptor Demutov - Malinovsky.

The goddess of victory, driving a chariot, holding a palm branch and a laurel wreath, signifies peace and glory. Statues of ancient Russian warriors are placed in niches. The figures of women with wings represent the world. On the obelisk of the gate are written all the names of the regiments that participated in the war. There are inscriptions on the parapet in Russian and Latin. In the mid-eighties of the twentieth century, in the upper part of the arch there was a museum dedicated to military topics, where exhibitions dedicated to military St. Petersburg are held.
The Narva Gate is part of the architectural ensemble of Stachek Square. Rising above the square, it is a landmark of St. Petersburg.
