Monument to A. S. Pushkin on Arts Square
Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, the greatest poet and author of many immortal works, traveled throughout Russia all his life. Every corner of the country was his home. But most of all, the genius of Russian literature loved the “city of Petrov,” where he spent more than a third of his life. That is why the most beautiful monument to Alexander Sergeevich was erected in St. Petersburg.

Initially, the idea arose to erect a monument to the centenary of the poet’s birth back in the USSR.
A competition for the best project was announced. The installation of the sculpture was planned on Vasilyevsky Island on Birzhevaya Square, which was then renamed Pushkinskaya. But no worthy work was put forward, and they decided to cancel the construction. The idea of creating a monument was returned to again after the war.
The most talented sculptor Anikushin took up the work. He had a difficult task ahead of him. It was necessary to translate the image of a thoughtful, freedom-loving, truly Russian and truly great poet into reality with the help of a piece of bronze. And he really succeeded. On the Arts Square, the writer is depicted at the moment of inspiration. His gaze is filled with light and faith in Russia and the Russian people, his right hand is gracefully thrown to the side, his head is raised in thought. The poet's hair and clothes seem to flutter in the wind. It stands on a high pedestal made of red granite. All this gives the monument life and energy. The sculptor Anikushin truly succeeded in perpetuating the memory of the father of the literary language, who conquered both time and space.
