Monument to A.S. Griboyedov
The monument to the great writer Alexander Sergeevich Griboedov in the city on the Neva was erected back in the twentieth century. The author of this monument was the well-known sculptor V.V. Lishev, who gave the poet’s image the greatness it deserves.

I would like to note the fact that the very idea of creating, constructing and opening the monument constantly faced various obstacles.
Due to this, the grand opening was postponed for a long time. In 1936, according to the decree of the Council of People's Commissars, the erection of the sculpture of the genius began. Then, for 30 years, the ups and downs about the shape and appearance of the monument continued. It was only in 1949 that the approved figure of the writer and playwright was made in bronze. It was necessary to find a suitable place for installation.
As a result, it was decided to choose a space on the territory of the square in front of the Youth Theater, which was still under construction at the same time. According to the creators, the opening of the monument was to take place on the one hundred and thirtieth anniversary of his death. However, due to misunderstandings, the opening was postponed, so the sculpture appeared before the public only 9 months after the planned installation. The sculptor introduced the audience to A.S.
Griboyedov in a sitting position on a chair located on a granite pedestal. The playwright is leaning on the back of his chair and in his hands is a book that he is reading. Thus, the writer was introduced closer to ordinary people who were mired in their everyday difficulties and problems. At the same time, the monument reveals internal concerns about visions of life and the improvement of the country where the writer was born and lived. After the long-term construction and grand opening of the monument, it became quite famous among various segments of society. Representatives of the intelligentsia play a special role in popularizing this masterpiece, holding various meetings at the installation site. In addition, numerous public processions and events are held near the sculpture in the square. Ordinary people prefer to simply walk near the monument, enjoying the deep feelings of the image of the famous creator of culture...
