The sculpture has been located at the entrance to the building since October 2005.
The hippopotamus, nicknamed Tonya, is made of bronze and occupies an area of 35 cm by 20 cm, to the left of the entrance. In the distant 18th century, evil fate tried to separate two lovers, and out of grief the girl rushed into the Neva, and the young man (what could he, the poor man do) followed... And the Russians Romeo and Juliet would have drowned, if not for the hippopotamus Tonya (aka Motya, aka Tosha...).
The girl took hold of her right ear, and the boy took hold of the left one, and Tonya brought them safely to the shore, where they got married... In general, now the hippopotamus’s right ear turns golden, because every girl in the philology and east faculty knows that if you rub your right ear, it will be you're married.
