Leon Abgarovich Orbeli - Russian and Soviet physiologist, one of the founders of evolutionary physiology, academician and vice-president of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Colonel General of the Medical Service. Hero of Socialist Labor, Laureate of the Stalin Prize.
Orbeli made a huge contribution to the development of science in our country. Thanks to this man, a scientific direction appeared - Evolutionary Physiology.
Together with his colleagues, Orbeli studied the mechanisms of higher nervous activity and made several discoveries in this area.
The monument was built on the initiative of the Leningrad Scientific Society - the opening took place on November 6, 1969 with all honors.
