Monument to the Teacher is a monument in St. Petersburg, installed at the intersection of Ushinsky and Uchitelskaya streets in the Kalininsky district.
The monument is a sculptural composition in the form of hands releasing birds into the sky - this symbolizes teachers graduating a new generation of young people, passing on their knowledge to them.
The grand opening of the monument took place in October 2010 on Teacher's Day.
The monument was made by sculptor Andrei Gulyaev. According to the sculptor, the hands are a symbol of teachers, whose mentoring feats, endless patience and boundless care for schoolchildren are equated to the work of mothers.
