The Kisses Bridge over the Moika is located on Glinka Street. From here it’s a three-minute walk to Theater Square and the State Conservatory, and in the other direction the road goes to Truda Square and further to the Neva, straight to the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge. The length of the bridge is 41.5 meters, the width is 23.5 meters.
The name of the bridge was given by the surname of the merchant Potseluyev, the owner of the nearby drinking establishment “Kiss”.
Since 1738, there was a wooden pedestrian drawbridge here, painted in different colors, and called Tsvetnoy.
In 1768, the bridge was rebuilt for transport passage.
At the same time, it became 3-span with stone supports. In 1816, a cast-iron, single-span, arched bridge was built on this site according to the design of engineer and architect V. I. Geste. The metal structures of the bridge were manufactured at the Ural factories of N. N. Demidov. Granite obelisks with lanterns were installed at the entrances to the bridge.
