Address: B. Sampsonievsky Prospekt, 41
The building quickly deteriorated from the weather.

Soon the authorities were faced with the problem of building a new stone structure worthy of the greatness of St. Petersburg, which one of the talented architects undertook to solve. Scientists do not yet know exactly who it was. It is possible that it was D. Trezzini, or M. Zemtsov. Work on the construction of the temple began only in 1728.

The old church was dismantled, and where the altar was located, a chapel appeared, where a granite slab with the image of the Holy Trinity was kept. Sampson's Cathedral

The construction of Sampson's Cathedral was delayed.

The side walls were consecrated in 1733, the main altar in 1740. At first, the cathedral was crowned with only one dome in the shape of an onion dome, which rose on a faceted high drum. More than twenty years later, four more drums with domes were added to it. So the temple became five-domed, according to the ancient national traditions of architecture. The multi-tiered bell tower, which was completed by a bulbous dome, was also made in the Old Russian style.

Its facade is decorated with pilasters and rows of decorative false windows. Next to the side facades there are open galleries, a rarity for St. Petersburg churches. In 1909, a chapel was built next to the cathedral by the architect A.P. Aplaksin. It was created according to the models of buildings of the so-called “Elizabethan Baroque”. Sampsonievsky Cathedral

The pearl of Sampsonievsky Cathedral is the baroque wooden iconostasis.

The cathedral's throne and the canopy above it are masterpieces of the skill of Russian carvers. In the center of the temple there was an image of the Mother of God, to the right of which was the icon of Sampson the Receiver. The cathedral was closed in 1938 and became a clothing store. The bells had been dismantled five years earlier, excluding the main one, which was damaged as a result of shelling of Moscow during the Great Patriotic War. In 200 the cathedral was opened as a museum. The building has been restored and restored. Since 2010, church services have been held daily in the temple.
