Address:
emb. Fontanki, 34 (metro station "Gostiny Dvor").
Five generations of owners lived in the Sheremetev Palace, during which time a huge collection of musical instruments and works of art was collected here.
The cultural monument, thanks to its rich history, unique architecture and relics collected by the owners of the palace, is today considered one of the most important buildings making a great contribution to the development of the cultural life of St. Petersburg.
At the end of the 20th century, the Sheremetev Palace was transferred to the disposal of the Museum of Theater and Musical Art, after which the management began to actively work on recreating the atmosphere of the building that was here at the end of the 18th century.
Museum workers collected about 3,000 musical instruments, which are currently in perfect working condition. Some visitors even manage to hear the enchanting melodies emitted by these amazing objects. A museum of the famous Russian poetess Anna Akhmatova was soon opened in the wing of the palace. The exact environment in which this amazing woman once worked was restored in the room. The most valuable exhibits are collected here - Akhmatova’s personal belongings, her books and documents.
