The Tauride Palace, which is located in St. Petersburg, was the possession of Prince Grigory Potemkin-Tauride.
The palace was built in the classicist style from 1783 to 1789. The author of the project is I.E. Starov. Behind the palace is the Tauride Garden. Despite the exquisite modesty of the external facades of the building, the inside of the palace amazes with its splendor.
The main hall, which is richly decorated with stucco rotunda, is united with the White Column Hall by a wide opening. Some ceremonial rooms, for example, the Divan, the Picture Hall, the Tapestry Living Room, the Chinese Hall, still retained part of their original artistic decoration. The Tauride Palace is a two-story building, the front facade of which is decorated with a six-column portico.
The building is topped with a dome. The main building of this architectural structure is connected to the two-story buildings by a gallery, thereby outlining the front courtyard of the building. The palace is located in a rather picturesque place, with its façade facing the Neva, which creates a romantic atmosphere that evokes dreams of tsarist times. But although the exterior of the building is designed in a minimalist style, the interior decoration can amaze any guest who visits with its beauty and luxury. Thus, behind the main lobby there is a rotunda decorated with stucco. The palace is also famous for such interior spaces as the White Column Hall, the Tapestry Living Room, the Picture Hall, the Chinese Hall and the Divan Room.
