Lazarevsky Bridge
Previously, the bridge was called Koltovsky, after the former name of the adjacent area - Koltovskaya embankment.
It was built in 1947-1949. according to the design of engineer V.V. Blazhevich. In 1952, it was decided to rename the bridge in honor of Admiral M.P. Lazarev, and Koltovskaya embankment was accordingly named Admiral Lazarev embankment. Initially, the bridge consisted of 11 spans, all spans were metal, beams, the middle structure was movable, single-wing, with wooden and wood-metal frame supports.
The length of the bridge was 140.5 m, and the width was 11.3 m. Until 2002, it was a tram-pedestrian bridge; by the way, there were no such bridges in St. Petersburg anymore. However, the structure quickly fell into disrepair; the rails were eventually dismantled and the unique tram bridge became an ordinary pedestrian bridge. Although the load on it was not too great, its structures nevertheless became very dilapidated over the years.
The situation was aggravated by fishermen, due to whose negligence the bridge was repeatedly burned. Its depreciation by 2007 was 100%. It was decided to completely reconstruct the bridge, which was carried out in 2008-2009. The basis of the new structure was metal structures removed from the Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge (the new Bolshoi Petrovsky Bridge was also reborn).
According to experts, the new design can last at least 70 years. The dismantling of the bridge began in the summer of 2008, and already on May 23, 2009, the grand opening ceremony for traffic on the bridge took place, the reconstruction of which cost the St. Petersburg city budget a fairly round sum - 1.2 billion rubles, which significantly exceeds the original estimate.
